Many holidays center around traditions. Describe one tradition that is important to you or your family and explain why it still matters (or why it no longer does).

 

Writing prompt; now that it is about to be Christmas and New Year’s, one special tradition we always do throughout the years that I enjoy is that we get a glass of sparkling water or actual wine and we all say one thing that we’re thankful for. Although you will expect this to be mostly on Thanksgiving, we do it at every holiday because I feel like being thankful is something that means more. Another tradition we do is we honor our our parents with our most precious gift. In my situation, it’s only my mother however, this year, I’m planning to give her a meaningful gift. I feel like as I get older, I get to understand her more, not only as my mom, but also as a friend. I take advantage of this To have a fresh start with her every year for the upcoming year.


Summary: Today in class, we continued watching the Color Purple movie. 


Reflection; today I learned the difference between a movie and a book. Movies tend to go by the book however they can also manipulate it. I enjoy this because when you see it in a movie, you get to really feel those emotions that the book brings.

 Writing Prompt: one time I was judged unfairly was being left out from a group of white girl. I have nothing against them but based of their facial expressions and actions towards me was different. We had to get into groups at random and learn something from each and every one of them. I joined this one group and since a few of them already knew each other they were open to other but not me. They would skip my turn and just look at me like if I just landed on this planet. Once the timer went off I never spoke, I tried to because I wanted to make new friends, but I was silenced.  Summary: Today in class, we worked on a Common Lit Reflection: Today, I learned that being judge unfairly, especially if you don’t know the person, or in general, is cruel. No one likes to be judged because it just lowers our self esteem and our personality. It sometimes gives us a reason to change.

Writing prompt:  Dear God,  Suddenly, my heart broke into pieces. Mr_____has all of nettie's letter she has written to me. Potentially, I did feel sympathy for the man. He has broken my heart. All this time, all these years, I could have heard back from my sister. To not feel alone, to not feel outnumbered, to not feel pain, anger, and most of all, love. I could have been out of this place with Nettie's help. I could have fought Mr.____ a long time ago. However.....I would have never met Shug Avery. I don't know how to feel, God, excited or angry. Is this a sin? Summary: Today in class, we continued to read independently  Reflection: Today, I learned that it is okay to feel emotions. Even tho you may not know what to do, feeling is an action too.

After reading the first five letters of The Color Purple, reflect on your thoughts and emotions as you experienced Celie’s early voice and struggles

 Writing prompt: This book is definitely an interesting book I have ever read. I did not expect it to be such a strong and powerful message. I can feel Celie’s struggle in what to do in her situation. Experiencing rape at such a young age, she has a clear understand of what it is. Later her mother passes away, although she was not the best mother, she is left with her father that raped her and her sister. I honestly think this book already has me hooked and I can’t wait what happens next.  Summary today in class we took notes and began reading the story the color purple.  Reflection: I learned that letter tell a story too.
