At the end of Letter 21, Celie and Sofia share a rare moment of laughter that softens the tension between them. Write about a time when you and a sibling or family member shared an unexpected moment of joy after things had been tense or confusing. Explain how that moment helped bring you closer.

Writing prompt: I remember a time when my brother and I got lost in our new neighborhood. We decided to take a 30-minute walk to the park. By the end of the day, both of our cellphones died, so we did not remember the way back home. Since it was dark outside, I am very much afraid of the dark. Since my brother sees that I am anxious, he starts to as well. It took us 40 minutes to arrive home, but once we did, we were laughing so much. It was funny in the sense that we had gotten lost and experienced a situation like that too.  Summary Toddsy in class, we were finishing our projects. Reflection: It is important to value the people you have with you currently.

Celie tells Harpo to “beat” Sofia because she believes that’s how men control women, but this advice causes pain and conflict. Think about a time when someone gave you advice that sounded right at first but ended up being wrong. How did it affect your situation or relationships? What lesson did you learn about thinking for yourself?

Reflection: I had a friend fallout recently. We were all a trio, and when one left, it was just me and my friend Paloma. The reason why we stopped being friends is that our friend Alondra posted something on social media that pushed one of my buttons. I was not going to stand on that, so Paloma and I backed away. Paloma found a TikTok that was similar to the situation we were going through with Alondra, and she told me Let's both repost it. And it sounded like a good idea in my head because the TikTok contained exactly how we feel in our situation. So I did it because it was relatable. until I did not realize Alondra could see that i reposted it, and she took it really bad. She started posting things hurtful towards us. I regret it, but at the same time, it is how I feel. I never like putting my problems on social media, so I ended up backing away from it. Till this day, our conflict is still going on. I just hope I don't do things like that again.  Summary: Today, we continu...

Letters 11–16 show how relationships can be full of misunderstanding and pressure. Harpo wants love, but he also wants power. Sofia wants freedom, not control. Reflect on a time when someone’s desire for control hurt a friendship or relationship. What advice would you give to Harpo or Sofia if you could?

Writing prompt: I've had my fair share of relationships. However, there is one particular relationship where everything was nothing but control. When you deal with people who want to control you, it tells you they had a past with someone very controlling, or they themselves have a certain insecurity. You have two options: leave the person or fight for it. When I was in my relationship, I had let myself be controlled. It didn't matter the age, nor the gender, nor anything else; it was simply draining, and I did not have the strength to leave or fight. It lasted for a year and seven months. What I would tell Harpo is that controlling someone is never the way to go. They are not animals, they are women. If you want to gain respect and be that male head, it's earned. There is always a balance that has to be maintained. It is also very important to build that trust with your partner. For Sofia, it is okay to keep your guard up. I know you love Harpo, too. I know you have a past...

In letters 6 -10, we see how Celie starts noticing the strength of people around her, like Shug Avery’s independence and confidence. Think about someone in your life who inspires you to be stronger or more confident. What qualities do they have that you admire and try to learn from?

writing prompt: At my church, there is this lady who sings as if it were heavenly. However, she also has this powerful, purposeful voice. Immediately, I took her as someone so inspirational and exactly where I would like to be one day. Every Sunday, I would look at her techniques, like when she breathes, how long she holds certain notes, how she holds the microphone, the way she fills in with the songs, etc. I knew in my mind I did not want to be just exactly like her, but use her techniques to get to her level in my own way. I think it is very important to use someone or something inspirational, not to envy and try to be like them, but to use that to make yourself different.  Summary: Today, we continue reading the book "The Color Purple."  Reflection: Today, I learned that having a role model is important. It helps you find your purpose, dreams, and goals. It is never to copy someone; it is to figure out who you are.

After reading the first five letters of The Color Purple, reflect on your thoughts and emotions as you experienced Celie’s early voice and struggles

Writing prompt: This book is definitely an interesting book I have ever read. I did not expect it to be such a strong and powerful message. I can feel Celie’s struggle in what to do in her situation. Experiencing rape at such a young age, she has a clear understand of what it is. Later her mother passes away, although she was not the best mother, she is left with her father that raped her and her sister. I honestly think this book already has me hooked and I can’t wait what happens next.  Summary today in class we took notes and began reading the story the color purple.  Reflection: I learned that letter tell a story too.
