How important is education in your life right now? Do you think students around the world value school the same way you do? Explain your reasoning.

Writing Prompt: Education is very important in my life. I have the willingness to learn new things everyday. In addition, most of my education is history, so it would really help me understand things that are happening economically or in my country. I think there are various students around the world that value education the same as I do. Perhaps for different reasons, but they still do. Some people have easy access and some don't, for various reasons. Some students would love to even go to school. It also connects to what drives their motor, what they are passionate about. If anyone is passionate about anything, the first start is going to school.  Summary: Today in class we watched a film called "On the Way to School",  Reflection: Today in class I learned about how different children around the world travel to school.

After viewing your classmates’ presentations, which cultural group did you find most interesting? Explain why. Then, reflect on how this presentation changed or deepened your understanding of that culture.

Writing Prompt: After viewing my classmates presentations, I found Latino/Hispanic women the most interesting. I honestly, understand the reason why they are stereotypes mean, loud, or crazy. However, I found it interesting that I didn't know there were stereotypes in the shows the group presented. In Modern Family, Sofia Vergara one of the women who I didn't know showed signs of stereotyping. In a way, this TV show confirms and reinforces those stereotypes that people have, in reality, they are not true. It made me realize even with people that are in my race, ethnicity, and culture are being stereotyped.  Summary: Today in class we presented our group projects.  Reflection: Today in class I learned the dangers of a single story in various culture groups.

Which factor plays a greater role in shaping your future career choice: your genuine interest and passion for the field, or the financial benefits and stability it can provide? In your response, explain which one you prioritize and why, and consider how this decision might impact your long-term happiness, motivation, and overall quality of life.

Writing Prompt: The greater role in shaping my future career choice is the genuine interest and passion rather than the financial benefits and stability. I say this because I do not want to do something for the rest of my life that I will not enjoy. When it comes to financial benefits and stability, overall that is awesome. However, i'd like to try building that on my own. There are many ways and opportunities to achieve that if I just try. Making this choice will positively affect my future happiness because I am doing something I want to do, that I enjoy, and that I am passionate about.  Summary: Today in class we worked on a worksheet about researching careers and how it can benefit us.  Reflection: Today I learned various careers I didn't know I may have an interest in, I also learned how it can really benefit me economically and professionally.

As we approach the end of the course, reflect on the texts, discussions, and concepts explored in Multicultural Literature. What is one significant lesson about culture or identity that has stood out to you? Explain why this lesson is meaningful and analyze how it connects to your own experiences or perspective.

Writing Prompt: Throughout this class, multicultural Literature, it really exposed me to things that I never knew or even thought about. The most effective way I was exposed to topics within multicultural were the texts. The stories, memoirs, poems, they each played a critical part of this class. I was able to strengthen the interpretation of a poem when we read one that was called infant sorrow. the memoir 'Wild" opened me trail culture, the people who walk on trails each have a story to tell. How even her as a woman, was able to ignore stereotypes too. Writing blog posts everyday helps me thing about myself or topics we've talked about. One significant lesson about culture that stood up to me was identity. At the very beginning of the school year, we had an assignment that continued and empty mask. Inside, we had to put picture of items or people that make up our identity. We had watched a short film about it too, where the girl was able to take her mask off and show he...

Think about a film that represents your culture (or a culture you identify with) in a positive and meaningful way. Explain how the film represents the culture and why this portrayal matters. Be sure to include specific examples from the film.

Writing prompt: A film that represents my culture is Selena. It is about a Mexican American singer who struggled with fitting in. Although it sounds negative, it really represents my culture because in the movie, it portrayed her a Mexican American who is not American enough for an American and not Mexican enough to be Mexican. So, she could not have enough from two worlds. However, her turning point was having to learn Spanish because at first she didn’t know how. She put effort into that side of her culture. In the American side, she knew the language, it was mostly about being accepted by others. So she went into the musical industry, so that everyone can see her through her talent and not her race. I connect so much with this movie because at times, I feel like I can’t have both words, even thought it is who I am and what I believe I am to be apart of.  Summary; Today in class we worked on our projects. Reflection; today I learned that being culturally involved is very importan...

The short film Born With It shows how stereotypes can shape the way people see others and even how individuals see themselves. Reflect on the main character’s experience and explain how stereotypes impacted his identity and sense of belonging. Then, connect this to a broader idea: how can stereotypes influence the way a culture or group is understood by others? Use specific examples from the film to support your response.

Writing prompt; Though out the film, the boy deals with various stereotypes that limits his identity. He is judged based on assumptions because of his appearance. He starts to question his identity because of the way others treat him and not how he sees himself. For example; his peers automatically assumed the boy had AIDS based on the color of his skin. They were also confused why he was able to speak Japanese if he is black. Due to this, he focused on isolating himself in order to make others around him happy. However, this made him question his identity on who he is and if he really does have AIDS. On a broader level, stereotypes influence how an entire cultural or a small group is being understood. They misrepresent a group which can lead to bias opinions and misunderstand one another. The film shows how stereotypes are inaccurate and misleading why showing how much the main character struggles. However, it highlight the importance of seeing a person for who they are and just ...

What is the most exciting thing about graduating high school for you personally? In your response, explain what you are looking forward to most after graduation (college, career, independence, travel, etc.) and why it matters to you.

Writing prompt; the most exciting thing about graduating high school is just the feeling of accomplishment. I am the last child of my mom to finish high school and it just feels like a big accomplishment for me and for her. I still remember so many memories when I was in kindergarten, it is so hard to believe I am finally done with the major 12 years of school. I am planning to go to college and study education and become a teacher. This matters to me because all my life I’ve been surround by teachers. Wether that is school, my family, or friends. I want to be able to give that back by helping others. It makes me feel happy helping others, in any way.  Summary; Today in class we watched a TedTalk Reflection; Today I learned that it is okay not to know what we want to do after high school. That the question “what do I wanna be?” Should be “what am I interested in?”

Clothing is often tied to identity and culture. Describe an outfit or style you like that may not fit what others expect from you. How have people responded, and what does this reveal about stereotypes in society?

Writing prompt; My style has changed form time to go. Recently I jsut wear what I think it is comfortable. However, there was a time I used to dress like a tom boy. What I liked about it was that I felt confortable and like me. As I continued my life dressing this way, a lot of people form my middle school had something to say about it. They would call me a boy or start changing my name. Sure I looked like it but dressing this way was not because I wanted to become a boy. I was bullied because I couldn’t feel comfortable. They would tell me I should be more lady like and dress as how I am supposed to. So I did. Society only has one perspective of how a person should be based off of gender, race, and etc. however I think some things should be neutral. Girls can like blue and boys can like pink if they want to.   Summary; Today we watched a short film called stereo.  Reflection; Today I learned how clothing plays a big part in your identity.

Cities can also be an important part of a person’s cultural identity, shaping their values, experiences, and way of life. Think of a movie or TV show that changed the way you see a specific city. How was that city and its culture portrayed, and did it present a full picture or a “single story”? Explain how this portrayal could influence how people view those who live there.

Writing Prompt: My favorite Tv show is Called the Originals. I am aware it is not for everyone but it is about the supernatural. It is mostly based in New Orleans. At first, before watching this show, I always thought New Orleans was always about Mardi Gras, people getting drunk, and just partying. However, apart from the from of the TV show, it also shows how New Orleans is very famous for their warm community and family in general. In the  TV show, the Original family always fought for the center of New Orleans because that is where home is. Anyone that was form New Orleans will always fight for the culture to continue on and not murder the people there. Yes, there were major parties but that is not portrayed in a negative way. That is what makes New Orleans who they are and how the majority are connected to their culture. I don't think this Tv showed much of a single story, I think everyone on the show can all agree, in their own way, how the culture in New Orleans is what...

Think about the most stereotypical film you have ever seen. This could be a movie that represents a specific culture, race, gender, or group in an oversimplified or unrealistic way. In your response, explain what film you are referring to, what stereotypes were present in the film, and how those stereotypes shaped your understanding of that group at the time

Writing prompt: I think the most stereotypical film iv'e seen are all the Tyler Perry Madea movies. I have seen almost all of the movies and the majority of them have the same stereotypes about black people. I have seen many things like, angry women, dysfunctional family, vulgur, unfaithfulness, and etc. Throughout my life, some of these stereotypes have already been planted in my head however, the Madea movies kinda confirmed it. When I was just a little younger, I would honestly be afraid of black people due to these movies. However as I got older, I learned to understand what stereotypes are and how to turn the negativity into humor. Maybe they are right or maybe they are wrong. However, I chose to ask a black person myself to confirm rather than just assume that is how they are.  Summary: Today in class we did an assignment writable about stereotypes.  Reflection: Today in class I learned how we see stereotypes in our daily lives including what we watch or what we re...

Why do you think filmmakers continue to use stereotypes, even when they can be harmful or inaccurate? Explain one reason discussed in class and give your opinion on whether this justifies their use.

Writing Prompt: I think there are various reasons why filmmakers continue to use stereotypes in movies and TV shows. I do agree on what the Common Lit Assignment we had on filmmakers had said about a few of the directors. Some have not been exposed to racists or diversity then most likely things like that would appear in their film. In addition, some film makers like to add some of these stereotypes because it helps bring the awareness to everyone of why people are getting these types of stereotypes. It gives a story to tell.  Summary: today in class we did a Common Lit Assignment. Reflection: Today in class I learned about Hollywood dreams are not as we think it is.

Hair can be a powerful way people express who they are and where they come from. Think about your own hair, your style, texture, or how you choose to wear it. How does your hair connect to your culture or your identity? Describe a moment when your hair made you feel proud, uncomfortable, or misunderstood, and explain why

Writing prompt: The way I wear my hair is different from how my culture would normally wear it. When I was much younger, I would follow the rules that my culture would want me to wear my hair and feel proud. However, I did not agree with it. I had to have my hair long, straightened, and shiny. I was born with coiled hair and very hard to manage. So, due to this, I had to straighten it every time, causing my hair to be damaged and never curly ever again. It was very sad and I never felt like myself. So, eventually I cut my hair very short and stopped straightening it. My mother did not approve for a moment, but then eventually she saw how I started to shine in every way. Ever since I've never felt better. I also have seen stories like this in the media, which helped me feel like I was still a part of my culture. I agree with the fact that we will always be connected to our roots, but times do change, we learn to adapt to changes but still be connected.  Summary: Today in class...

Why is the choice to serve leftover Chinese food significant in “Lunch”? How could the author have made a more culturally meaningful choice for her grandmother? Use the text to support your answer. Then reflect on a time when you realized you could have done something more meaningful for someone else.

Writing prompt; I think this shows a disconnected from her culture. Her grandfather did pass away which I can infer, cause that link to disconnect. The story mentions how her grandmother never cooked in the same kitchen again. The author could have made culture meaningful choice for her grandmother by cooking foods her grandmother had made before. To be able to renew her culture senses . One thing I could have made more meaningful for someone is Mother’s Day. There was a time I was mad at my mother and I chose to do something simple. However that year was when her mother passed away, my grandmother. However I got to carried away with being angry. I wished I could have made that day more meaningful to her, a box of chocolate was not gonna cut it.  Summary: Today in class, we read "Lunch" by Christina Henriquez Reflection; today in class I learned our ancestors play a key role to our culture food.

Today, we explored how food connects to identity, culture, and belonging across the TED Talk, Fish Cheeks, and the Mississippi Delta film. How does food help individuals understand who they are, especially when they feel caught between cultures or judged by others? In your response, be sure to include at least one example from at least (TED Talk, Fish Cheeks, or the Mississippi Delta film) to support your thinking.

Writing prompt; Food helps because it reminds people where they come from and even if they feel pressure to fit into another culture. For example, in "Fish Cheeks", tan feels embarrassed by her traditional Chinese food when her American crush comes over for dinner. She worried about being judge and wishes she can be more American. At the end of the story, her mother reminds her to always be prime of her own culture.  Summary; Today in class we read fish cheeks Reflection; Today I learned how people can feel the pressure of changing cultures. I was able to reflect on how I used to try to change as well.

Throughout your classmates' presentations, you were exposed to a variety of cultural foods and traditions. How did these presentations shape your understanding of different cultures? Share your opinion on what stood out most.

Writing prompt; listening to my classmates presentations, I realized how culture is deeply connected to foods and traditions. Every culture has their own unique flavors, ingredients, and meanings to their meals. It shows me how food is more than just something that we eat. For example, Indian food deals with various spices and strong flavors. While Chinese is more of balance. Overall it made me more interested in trying some of the meals I saw.  Summary; Today in class we presented out My culture My food project.  Reflection; Today I learned my classmates culture and how their food is connected to their culture.

If you could plan the perfect spring break with no limitation, money, time, or responsibilities—what would it look like? Where would you go, who would you bring, and what would you do?

Writing prompt; if I could be able to plan the perfect string break with no limitations, I would rent out a cabin for the whole week and spend it with my friends. This perfect spring break would take place at blue ridge. It would have a nice large land, with a pool and hot tube, a gaming room, and a huge house. Before we would arrive, we would be hundreds worth of groceries and snack for the week. On the last day we would go visit any areas around and hang out.  Summary: Today in class we did a common lit.  Reflection: today in class I learned how bugs are important to certain cultural food?
