Reflect on your writing process for essays. Which part of writing an essay do you struggle with the most (for example: developing a thesis, organizing ideas, finding strong evidence, writing introductions, or explaining your analysis)? Which parts of essay writing do you feel most confident about? Explain why you feel strong in those areas and what specifically makes the challenging part difficult for you. Include at least one goal for how you plan to improve your essay writing skills.

 Writing prompt: The part of the writing process where I struggle the most is the brainstorming. I tend to overthink how i need to make my cluster. Then writing the sub topics is a very difficult thing for me to do. Another thing that I am still getting the hang of is gathering evidence and connecting it back to my claim. Trying to explain the reasons why also causes me to struggle. The area that I feel more confident is writing and introduction and developing a thesis. When writing a thesis, it is mostly just a statement, something that can be argued and stated by facts. For an introduction paragraph, I like to come up with a hook that can grab the person's attention and give them a reason why this is important. A goal I have on how I plan to approve, is to tough up on my skills in writing essays, and find a random prompt to write about at least once a month. 

Summary: Today in class, we were finishing off prepping for our essay, making sure we have everything we need. 

Reflection: Today in class I learned what my strengths and weaknesses were in the writing process for essays.

 Writing Prompt: one time I was judged unfairly was being left out from a group of white girl. I have nothing against them but based of their facial expressions and actions towards me was different. We had to get into groups at random and learn something from each and every one of them. I joined this one group and since a few of them already knew each other they were open to other but not me. They would skip my turn and just look at me like if I just landed on this planet. Writing prompt:  Dear God,  Suddenly, my heart broke into pieces. Mr_____has all of nettie's letter she has written to me. Potentially, I did feel sympathy for the man. He has broken my heart. All this time, all these years, I could have heard back from my sister. To not feel alone, to not feel outnumbered, to not feel pain, anger, and most of all, love. I could have been out of this place with Nettie's help. I could have fought Mr.____ a long time ago. However.....I would have never met Shug Avery. I don't know how to feel, God, excited or angry. Is this a sin? Summary: Today in class, we continued to read independently  Reflection: Today, I learned that it is okay to feel emotions. Even tho you may not know what to do, feeling is an action too.

After reading the first five letters of The Color Purple, reflect on your thoughts and emotions as you experienced Celie’s early voice and struggles

 Writing prompt: This book is definitely an interesting book I have ever read. I did not expect it to be such a strong and powerful message. I can feel Celie’s struggle in what to do in her situation. Experiencing rape at such a young age, she has a clear understand of what it is. Later her mother passes away, although she was not the best mother, she is left with her father that raped her and her sister. I honestly think this book already has me hooked and I can’t wait what happens next.  Summary today in class we took notes and began reading the story the color purple.  Reflection: I learned that letter tell a story too.
